It was a Sunday evening, I was sitting quietly watching Love Island (don’t you dare judge me) and it honestly sounded like a bomb had gone off. My trusty command hook had failed me and the mirror I had hanging crashed down and smashed all over the floor. Now I am not one to make a mountain over a mole hill and I am not going to throw out a perfectly good mirror so I decided to stick it back together…
Off to Homebase we went, got myself some gloves, glue, grout, a scraper thingy and got a bit smash happy on what was left of the mirror. I don’t even want to know how many years bad luck I now have to live through but I think it was worth it! I wanted to still be able to use it as a semi-functional mirror so kept some of the larger pieces and tried to create a gradient effect with the glass, but it ended up looking a bit like a volcano.
It’s not perfect, there are some rough edges, but I think it came out pretty well for my first try at mosaic. I definitely recommend choosing a good glue as when I tried to grout it, a lot of the pieces decided to come unstuck and I ended up getting absolutely covered in grout – but it’s all part of the fun! I actually prefer the look of the mirror now and might try to make another one on a proper canvas board for our bathroom with the knowledge I have just acquired!
What do you think?
